Jack LaLanne Juicer

Made and endorsed by the late fitness legend Jack LaLanne, these are powerful but affordable centrifugal juicers that are suitable for juicing fruit as well as vegetables. Centrifugal juicers basically work this way: The food is first cut up and ground into a pulp. This pulp is then spun around at a high speed, forcing the liquid and the smallest particulate matter through a mesh.

The pulp residue is then forced upwards and into a receptacle. Simple enough!!!

Jack LaLanne was a health and fitness expert. So it is not surprising that the Power Juicer embodies the same principles of good health that have made him a household name. The juice you get is as close to the original produce as possible. It will not be clear. It will have particulate matter. JL juicers are designed for the utmost nutritional value, so if you’re more concerned about the flavor, or juice only to entertain guests, the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer might not be your best bet.

The Jack LaLanne Power Juicers come in a variety of models. The most popular ones are the JLPJB Power Juicer, the Power Juicer Express, the Power Juicer Deluxe and the Power Juicer Pro. All Power Juicers have removable parts that are dishwasher safe.

    • The JLPJB comes in a plain white finish that is easy to clean. Other highlights include a high-precision stainless steel blade, large feeder chute and a large pulp collector.
    • Cons
      • It is not a very efficient juicer, the residue pulp being only semi-dry. You may feel like re-feeding the pulp to extract more juice.
      • Do not chop your fruit or vegetables too finely before feeding them in, as the juicer tends to ignore the really small pieces, which end up in the pulp collector, unjuiced. Items like leafy greens should be rolled up into balls before being fed in.
      • The plastic parts will require some scrubbing after use.
    • Pros
      • The juicer is priced reasonably and offers good value
      • The feed chute is fairly large.
      • The quiet operation makes it a good home juicer.
    • Overall, the JLPJB Power Juicer is a good entry-level juicer for home-owners who want a quiet appliance that is also moderately efficient.

    • The Power Juicer Express comes in an attractive black finish and features a sleek, compact design. Other details include a non-drip spout, stainless-steel cutting blade and a single speed motor (3600 rpm)
    • Cons
      • The Express is not very powerful and most reviews advise users to be gentle when using the plunger. Also, enter the items slowly instead of all-at-once.
      • The Express does not have a large pulp collector, so it cannot be used for large amounts of juice at a time.
    • Pros
      • The Express is priced reasonably and offers good value for money.
      • It looks great in an attractive black shell with a touch of chrome. The Express will make a stylish addition to your kitchen counter-top.
      • It is quiet.
      • It is easy to clean.
      • It is fairly efficient. The pulp is only slightly moist.

Jack LaLanne’s JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Stainless Steel Electric Juicer

    • The Power Juicer Deluxe is a convenient juicer housed in attractive stainless-steel with black accents. Other highlights include a stainless-steel blade, powerful induction motor, non-drip spout, large detachable pulp collector and a limited lifetime motor warranty.
    • Cons
      • The juicer tends to throw the pulp upwards where it can get lodged in the lid. The pulp needs to be scraped off and can be re-fed for more extraction.
      • Some users have complained that the drain hole is a bit small, and can get clogged when juicing fibrous or pulpy foods. Fibrous foods can also clog the screen, making it difficult to clean.
    • Pros
      • The Deluxe is very simple to assemble/disassemble, operate and clean.
      • It is quiet.
      • The non-drip spout can be closed when you don’t want it to pour any more juice.
    • The JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe is a relatively hassle-free juicer that will appeal to the middle-aged or elderly user. However, if you plan on juicing fibrous foods, it is recommended that you look at other juicers, as the Deluxe will clog fairly easily.

    • The Power Juicer Pro comes in an attractive and professional-looking brushed stainless-steel exterior. Its main highlights include a 3600 rpm motor, stainless-steel blade, large pulp collector, unique non-drip spout and a limited lifetime warranty on the motor.

      • The Power Juicer Pro cannot be used excessively. Use it as per the instructions, and it will perform forever. However, when pushed even slightly outside its comfort zone, it can burn out.
      • The Pro cannot hold a lot of liquid. Make a quart of juice at a time and clean the strainer frequently. Otherwise, the juice tends to build-up and leak out the sides.
    • Pros
      • The Pro is a fairly long-lasting juicer and many users are happy with its long-term service. It will deliver trouble-free juicing as long as it is used properly.
      • It is quiet.

Jack LaLanne Power Juicers: Tips and things to know

Power Juicers have been designed for the home. As such, they are simple to operate and assemble/disassemble. No elaborate procedures.

Here are some foods that will work exceptionally well with Power Juicers

  • Carrots
  • Apples (not very smooth, but tasty)
  • Grapes
  • Celery
  • Peppers (strong, can be used to flavor other juices)

The foods that will not work as well are

  • Citrus
  • Berries (better to run them through a blender)
  • Bananas
  • Kiwis
  • Other pulpy foods

Because of the centrifugal mechanism, there will be some oxidation of the juice within the juicer. There’s no way around it. For totally oxidation-free juicing, you will have to purchase a slow-speed masticating juicer.

Jack LaLanne Juicers suffer from a rather unfortunate design flaw – the pulp build-up in the lid. Check it frequently and don’t let it accumulate.

Jack LaLanne Power Juicers are quite reasonably priced. Still, it is important to know what one’s juicing requirements are before settling on a particular model. Read through some of the reviews, look at the pros and cons of each juicer and only then will you be able to make an informed decision.

Finally, as our man Jack LaLanne would say, “If man made it, don’t eat it.” Always choose to make your own fresh juice instead of drinking store-bought concoctions.
