Omega Juicer

The Omega range of fruit-and-vegetable juicers includes the slow-speed masticating type models as well as the centrifugal type pulp-ejecting juicers.
Slow-speed juicers
These are the masticating type models equipped with slow-speed augers that minimize heat build-up and oxidation, resulting in tastier and healthier juices.

The Omega range of slow-speed juicers can further classified into Nutrition Centers and Vertical Masticating Juicers
Nutrition Centers
These juicers feature the traditional masticating ‘arm’ design where the augur directly extracts the juice and pours it into the receiver glass without letting it swirl around inside, unlike in centrifugal juicers. This ensures a fresh and more flavorful juice drink.

The masticating assembly is great for juicing leafy greens and wheat grass, thanks to the slow moving (80 rpm) augur which grinds the food instead of cutting it. The Nutrition Centers have multifunctional capabilities and can carry out a variety of food-processing tasks as well, including turning nuts into nut butter, extruding pasta, grinding coffee and spices, mincing herbs and garlic, making baby food and soy milk.

The Omega Nutrition Centers come in 4 models: The J8003 and J8004 (white) and their respective black and chrome counterparts, the J8005 and J8006. While the J8003 and J8005 models come with melamine augurs, the J8004 and J8006 feature the stronger GE Ultem augurs.

Cons :

    • The small feeder chute will require some chopping beforehand. However, the total time difference is negligible.
    • The Nutition Centers are slower than centrifugal juicers. This is to be expected given the difference in the extraction process.

Pros :

  • Nutrition Centers excel at juicing leafy greens and wheat grass. In fact, if you’re not going to be juicing greens at least occasionally, you really shouldn’t buy one of these.
  • The slow moving augur is quiet in its operation and will not disturb the household. This is major advantage over centrifugal juicers.
  • The single-gear design produces little or no froth and what you get is pure juice.
  • The Nutrition Centers are easy to disassemble and clean, often requiring nothing more than a hot water rinse. The efficient design prevents clogging.
  • They are small in size and will fit on any counter-top.
  • The Nutrition Centers are mulch-functional appliances and offer a range of processes apart from juicing. These include making nut butter, pasta, baby food and soy milk.
  • Finally, they come with fantastic warranties, 10-year (for the J8003 and J8005) and 15-year (for the J8004 and J8006).

The Omega Nutrition Centers are multi-funtional juicers that offer great features at reasonable prices. Elderly users will appreciate their quiet operation. Suitable for large as well as small homes.

  • Vertical Masticating Juicers
Omega VRT330 Dual-Stage Vertical Single-Auger Low-Speed Juicer

Omega VRT330 Dual-Stage Vertical Single-Auger Low-Speed Juicer

These juicers have a unique vertical design that sets them apart from other masticating juicers. The vertical assembly gives them greater stability and a compact form, so that they can rest easily on the narrowest kitchen counter-top.

They have a slow but powerful motor that rotates at 80 rpm for effective juicing. The dual stage (first extract, then squeeze) system extracts the maximum amount of juice, leaving fairly dry pulp.

The Omega Vertical Juicers feature an Automatic Wiping System that uses a silicone wiping blade to help keep the screen free of excess pulp.

The Omega range of Vertical Masticating Juicers consists of the VRT330 and the VRT350 models.

Cons :

  • A few users have reported the appearance of a layer of froth in the extracted juice. However, this can easily be removed with a little skimming.
  • The pulp-ejection spout needs to be regularly cleaned as it is somewhat prone to clogging. Not a big problem if you’re a fan of pulp, though.
  • The VRT330 juicer has a plastic screen that can crack after a some usage. This has been rectified in the VRT350 which uses a highly durable GE Ultem screen. In any case, parts under warranty are easily replaceable.

Pros :

  • The vertical design is a great space saver and gives the Vertical Juicers extra stability.
  • Entering produce through the chute is easy, thanks to the self-feeding design which pulls the food in. The included plunger is hardly required.
  • The VRT Juicers, particularly the VRT350, operate very quietly and will not disturb the household.
  • The unique self-cleaning feature on the VRT juicers been highly praised. The wiper-blade design significantly reduces the screen’s clogging, making it easy to clean afterwards.

The Omega Vertical Masticating Juicers are powerful but quiet, making them ideal for homes as well as offices. The compact vertical design will fit on the smallest of countertops.

Pulp-ejecting juicers

Omega 4000 Stainless-Steel 1by3-HP Continuous Pulp-Ejection Juicer

Omega 4000 Stainless-Steel 1by3-HP Continuous Pulp-Ejection Juicer

These are centrifugal juicers with pulp-collectors that effectively catch the pulp for continuous juicing.

  • Omega 4000 Juicer

The Omega 4000 features a 250-Watt induction motor that rotates at 5200 rpm. Other highlights include a heavy duty stainless-steel blade that can effectively slice through fruit as well as vegetables, a large pulp collector for continuous juicing, a large feeder chute for feeding in whole items, and a compact design.

Cons :

  • The Omega 4000 can sometimes rattle on the counter, particularly when juicing hard fruits. Some users have suggested pressing down gently on the lid while juicing. This should greatly reduce the rattling.
  • The Omega 4000’s spout has been known to splatter at times, and can create a mess in the kitchen. We suggest using a wide-mouth receiver for your juice, which should contain any stray splatter and keep the counter clean.

Pros :

  • Omega’s pulp-ejection system uses a cone-shaped spinning drum that forces the pulp upwards till it is ultimately ejected out from the back. This mechanism minimizes the accumulation of pulp in the main unit.
  • The Omega 4000 is a very durable juicer and many long-term users are quite happy with the service it is giving them. The plastic used is of a fairly rugged quality and the stainless-steel is quite high-grade and rust-proof.
  • Finally, the Omega 4000 comes with a great 15-year warranty that covers everything apart from the blade.

The Omega 4000 is recommended for use by students, working professionals and small-home dwellers who want a quick juice drink without an elaborate cleanup.

Omega juicers: Tips and things to know

Masticating juicers are sensitive to pressure. Always press down gently, if at all, with the provided plunger. If you feel some resistance, it only means that the juicer is at capacity and needs time to extract before you can feed in any more produce.

Hard foods like carrots are great for ‘cleaning’ the blade/augur and should be alternated with soft foods like greens, to help remove any left over pulp.

It is recommended that you clean the juicer right after operation. Pulp once dry is difficult to remove.

The Omega range of juicers is fairly extensive, and it is important to know what kind of juicing you prefer, before actually buying one. If you’re into serious health juicing, and intend to juice greens on a fairly regular basis, look no further than the Nutrition Centers, which will also give you some food-processing features. On the other hand, if space is more of a concern but you still want the benefits of a slow-augur masticating juicer, the Omega Vert range of juicers is a recommended option. If, however, you want fast juicing that is fairly efficient, the Pulp-Ejecting Juicers are worth a shot. Choose wisely!
